Special Event! The legendary band BIJOU is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Philippe DAUGA is being honored for his career and as a founding member. The band’s name is now Bijou Dauga. The trio has been reunited around bassist, singer, and songwriter Dauga, with guitarist Pat LLABERIA (of whom Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders said in her autobiography: “He’s the kind of guitarist you only meet once every ten years!”) — a fitting tribute. Pat LLABERIA replaces the famous Vincent Palmer. With new drummer Nico TANDA, this marks a new chapter in the adventure, alongside Dauga, who has always kept the band’s flame alive on record and on stage with undiminished passion. Let’s remember that in their early days, much like the Musketeers, the band Bijou (then consisting of Dauga Palmer, Dynamite, and Thoury, the lyricist and manager) collaborated notably with Gainsbourg, who owes his return to the stage to them. BIJOU is thus a cult favorite for many fans today.
After this tribute to the past, let’s talk about this album, which bears the name of one of its instrumental tracks, RAM DAM—a nod to Philippe’s father. The vocal tracks are all calls to rediscover common sense and a sincere, immediate take on life, which is what rock & roll has always offered us as a lens through which to view the world.
With this new record, it revives a spirit of spontaneity and freedom that should appeal to an audience hungry for French-language rock.
This freedom now allows BIJOU Dauga to release a raw, wild, rock-and-pop album. The tracks are catchy and very well produced to celebrate this anniversary in style.
Two magnificent music videos were filmed against the natural backdrop of the Aubrac region, and the third pays homage to the history of a legendary band. Black and white suits them so well. You’ve got to hurry… and see them in concert.
