Paul Dalobo

About

Born in Évreux (Normandy) in December 1997, Paul Dalobo was immersed in music from a very young age. He began learning music at age 7 with the trombone, then moved on to the guitar and percussion, and wrote his first songs at age 12, initially in English, heavily inspired by the music of The Beatles and The White Stripes.
At 17, when he began his studies in Strasbourg, Paul embarked on his first musical projects and turned to rap, which offered him a new artistic freedom. He then began writing in French and honed his songwriting skills. Over time, his style evolved, moving away from rap to return to his first loves—pop and singing—thus shaping his current artistic style.
Both a songwriter and composer, Paul Dalobo handles everything himself and stands out for his authentic, sincere, and particularly eclectic approach to music.
He finds his inspiration in a mix of styles ranging from Jack White’s garage to Michel Berger’s songwriting, from Pharrell Williams’ pop to Alex Turner’s. Here and there, one can also find bossa nova or electro elements, which enrich his artistic palette.
In addition to his melodic work, Paul Dalobo takes great pride in crafting each of his lyrics, weaving them together to tell a story that unfolds across his projects. With his debut EP, “Pourquoi t’es si triste?”, the artist invites the listener to dive into his own melancholy. A form of therapy for the singer-songwriter, who has carried this emotion within him for
a long time.
The question “Pourquoi t’es si triste?” is the very essence of the project. Paul Dalobo explores his doubts and his melancholy, questioning them to free himself from them. He wants to show that his melancholy is a strength; he wants to express it with force and optimism. Long weakened by the fear of judgment and of facing his own reflection, he had a breakthrough on his 25th birthday in December 2022 and decided to devote his life to music. Within a year, Paul Dalobo quit his job, underwent therapy, surrounded himself with a producer, an artistic director, and a manager, played DJ sets to self-fund his project, improved his singing and guitar skills, refined his songwriting, and worked tirelessly to complete his first 7-track EP. He then poured all his energy into his project and chose to see his artistic vision through to the end, regardless of the consequences.
He is a relentless artist, carefully building his project, bringing together every element—no matter how eclectic—to create a coherent and emotionally powerful musical experience.
Currently in the process of recording his second EP, “Le Bouquet,” scheduled for early 2025—for which he has assembled a band (bass, drums, guitar, keyboards, trombone)—he is releasing “Pourquoi t’es si triste” in May 2024. A 7-track EP, 7 vignettes, released one after another over a 3-month period, where all the songs have music videos and together tell a story that complements the music. Paul Dalobo sees this as an opportunity to introduce his listeners to his world in a more visual way.
At the same time, he’s developing his live performance art. Following release parties at Balades Sonores, then at Marcounet, and finally at Supersonic Records on June 6, 2024, he wraps up his first concert cycle with the Badger Festival in late July before embarking, with his new band, on a series of Parisian concerts starting in November 2024.
